Wetherspoons work continues as asbestos is cleared

The construction of a new branch of Wetherspoons in Whitstable will go ahead as planned after asbestos was cleared from the building.

Work on converting the former Cinema and Bingo hall was put on hold following the discovery of the deadly substance. But work on building a new branch of the cut-price pub is now back on track after experts confirmed the asbestos has now been cleared.

Upon hearing that the pub is still on course to open, residents of Whitstable seem to think it could force a lot of the towns other pubs out of business. Margaret Piper, a 63 year-old, said "Because they can afford to put their prices so cheap, the other pubs around here won't be able to compete. And thats really bad news."
